Despite the president’s insistence, the bill faces an uphill battle in the Senate, where Democrats and independent analysts warn that the new requirements could disenfranchise millions of eligible American voters.

The core of the legislation mandates that individuals registering for federal elections must present physical proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a birth certificate or passport, in person. While Trump argues that non-citizen voting threatens the integrity of the upcoming midterms, data from state audits and independent investigations consistently show that such instances are extremely rare. Interestingly, some analysts suggest these strict rules could inadvertently impact Republican-leaning demographics, including rural residents and married women whose current IDs may not match their birth certificates.

Beyond citizenship status, the bill seeks to standardize Photo ID requirements nationwide.
