White House Highlights Tougher Immigration Enforcement Shift

In an official statement, the White House said the United States is undergoing a major shift in immigration policy following the return of Donald Trump to office. The administration described its approach as the “most aggressive and effective overhaul” of immigration enforcement in modern U.S. history.

The statement also criticized the previous administration under Joe Biden, arguing that immigration courts had become overly lenient, with high asylum approval rates and prolonged case delays. According to the current administration, judges viewed as “activist” have been replaced with officials focused on stricter enforcement of immigration laws.

Decline in Asylum Approvals

The White House reported that asylum approval rates have dropped to approximately 7%, a level it described as historic. By comparison, the administration claimed that approval rates exceeded 50% during the prior government.

Increase in Deportations and Court Decisions

The statement also pointed to a sharp rise in deportation orders. In fiscal year 2025, immigration courts reportedly issued nearly 500,000 removal decisions—an increase of 57% compared to the previous year. Officials say this reflects improved efficiency and faster case processing.

Reduction in Case Backlogs

Another key point highlighted was the reduction in the immigration court backlog. According to the White House, hundreds of thousands of cases have been resolved since Trump took office, reducing delays that previously allowed migrants to remain in the country for extended periods while awaiting decisions.

Millions of Migrants Depart

The administration further stated that more than three million undocumented immigrants have left the United States during Trump’s second term, describing it as the largest decline in illegal immigration in recent history. It also claimed that no undocumented migrants were released at the border for 11 consecutive months.

At the same time, experts and human rights organizations have raised concerns that stricter enforcement policies may impact due process and limit access to the asylum system—an issue that continues to be widely debated in the United States.
